Training

Training (both theoretical and on job) is the key factor for developing a skilled workforce for this industry. An improperly trained unskilled worker is not only a potential hazard to the industry; he is equally dangerous for himself also.

Miti Enterprise gives paramount importance to the training. In 2009-2011 for implementation of ISO 30000:2009 (SRMS – Ship Recycling Management System) certification scheme in about 50 Recycling yards – at first provided consultancy service for the development of their infrastructure and develop a manual in line with ISO 30000:2009 standard, then provided extensive training for implementation of the same standard.

Now, our SAFETY AGENCY inspection/supervisory team providing on job training to workers every day during their daily visits to Recycling yards. Apart from that we arrange daylong TRAINING WORKSHOP to all yards by rotation to improve workers awareness in regards to handling/disposal of HAZ-MATS, Occupational Health and Environmental safety of Recycling facilities. We have formatted a SAFETY CHECK LIST ; prior commencement of dismantling activities our safety inspection team explain/brief safety issues as per checklist and get their acknowledgement in writing. During dismantling process our safety inspectors monitor workers job and provides hands on training on the work at site.

“Only trained workers shall be employed which are those had theoretical and on the job training from designated Training Institute supervised by SBSRB ( Ship Building and Ship Recycling Board ). Unskilled workers supplied by contractors have to go through training. All apprentices shall be trained with necessary Certificates issued by the institute only after verification by the SBSRB. No person shall allowed to be employed in Ship Breaking Yard without appropriate certificate. “(Ship Breaking and Recycling Rule – 2011, Cl. 17.1, Chapter 3).

Understand, Ministry of Industry developing appropriate training module. It is of prime importance to commence appropriate training schemes by designated institutes and to issue certificates to successful participants on completion training. Effectiveness of the training will depend of the standard of the training Institutions, quality of the trainers and over all monitoring system.

Development of skill cannot be achieved overnight, its a continuous process.
